Headquarters
SFA Members,
I hope the holidays were enjoyable and 2026 is off to a good start. Here at the Headquarters, the National Board of Officers is staying busy.
In the past few weeks, I’ve traveled to Florida to represent the SFA during the funeral of recent Gold St Philip Neri award recipient, Phil Hudicourt. During the writing of this message to the membership, I am sitting in the airport returning home from Green Bay after attending a banquet with Chapter 73. My future travels in support of the SFA have Chicago, DC and Tampa on the near horizon. As President of the SFA, I feel it is an obligation and a privilege to attend any event a Chapter requests presence at. Please keep that in mind as you are working on your annual calendar of events. With a bit of forewarning and coordination, I’m happy to travel.
This version of the Drop is the first of several that will be amended and tweaked until we figure out the long-term solution. The printed out version is thinner than the online version, so please check out both. The results of the recent poll conducted on Teamhouse show that the membership is split on how to progress. Some are steadfast in receiving a printed copy, while others are happy transitioning to an online version. Oddly enough, age doesn’t play a factor in these results with some of our oldest members preferring the digital version as it allows for zooming in and bigger fonts, while some of our younger members prefer the paper edition that they can keep on a table. This transition is not, nor could it ever be, a one-and-done solution. It will take a few editions for us to determine what the right answer is for long term approval and sustainment. Bear with us, but please provide feedback.
Please watch your mailbox for an envelope coming from National Headquarters. Not only are the annual Memorial Ground raffle tickets being mailed, but the election ballot for your 2026-2028 National Board of Officers is there as well. Paper ballots must be post-marked by 15 May and online voting via Teamhouse will end the same day. This ballot will have one added vote on it - this vote being important as it changes the overall structure of our governing documents, along with how amendments occur in the future. The proposed documents are online and in Teamhouse. There will be a lot of discussion on why we need new documents and what the intent is. Please talk with your Chapter Leadership or contact me directly to understand the intent if needed.
Please ensure you’re tracking the progress of SFACON-26. Chapter 7 is doing an excellent job using the playbook for the annual Red Empire week and amplifying it to also support the SFA convention. Not only will our members attending the convention at the 7th SFG flagpole gain awareness of what the current guys are doing, but it is hopeful to increase awareness and membership applications from active-duty soldiers by taking the convention to them. We look forward to maximum participation and hopefully get some members that haven’t attended a convention in a while (or ever) to Destin this summer.

Membership:
As of 28 February, 2026 there are 11,553 members. The breakdown is: 5,102 (Decade), 5,045 (General), 1,406 (Associate).
Final Formation:
Thanks to Len Cummings for his work creating a searchable database of our fallen members. This can be found in the Documents Section of the Teamhouse. A reminder that all obituaries should come to me to ensure that notification our fallen members is published in the Drop.
2026 Election:
The 2026 election cycle is upon us and I want to encourage all eligible members to cast your vote. Online voting opened on March 1st and paper ballots have been mailed to all 11, 553 members. Please do not vote more than once (online or paper) as it will cause a delay in tabulating the vote total. Historically, the Special Forces Association has had very poor participation in this important event. Take an active role in your Association. Please vote!
The Drop:
The Spring Drop is our first edition since the exit of our long-time publisher. We are working to continue to provide a high-quality publication for each of our members and we understand that the Drop must not only serve our membership, but it also has to be financially viable for the long-term. Expect some changes as we work toward this goal. The new Drop effort is very much a work in progress and your patience is appreciated.
A Tip of the Beret:
Chapter 1-18 hosted SFQC Class 342 for a BBQ and social at the Chapter Teamhouse. Congratulations to all of the newly minted Green Berets. Also, a special thanks to the Special Forces Trust who will be funding the Yarborough Knives that are presented to the SFQC honor graduates.
Finally, a special shout out to Chapters 1-18,100, and 62 for stepping up to assist HQs in getting all 11,533 ballots prepared for delivery. It was a monumental effort and it could not have been completed without their help. It was a shining example of SF brothers doing what they do best-stepping up to make things happen.
POW/MIA Update
The government shutdown last October resulted in several governmental operations. Specifically, with the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA). During the shutdown only those agencies declared essential were allowed to function. DPAA was not on the list of essential agencies. As a result, all DPAA government employes were furloughed and not allowed to work. They were not even allowed to access their government computers or other tech devices. Military personnel assigned to DPAA were not furloughed, but all travel was restricted. The only civilians allowed to work were government contractors.
Needless to say, this all significantly hampered DPAA’s ability to continue with their mission on the recovery and identification of unaccounted for service members. More specifically, the missions in Southeast Asia (the Vietnam War) efforts were brought to a standstill. Joint Field Activities teams and Investigation teams currently in Vietnam and Laos were forced to stand down and return to their home bases. Planned operations were halted. All of this was a major setback, because in many cases permits and authorizations expired requiring new negotiations with the host countries.
Moving on the FY2026, DPAA has regenerated their efforts in recovery operations in Southeast Asia. They have missions planned to begin in early FY2026 with three recovery teams in Laos and two in Vietnam where there will also be one investigation mission. Unfortunately, the recovery missions they had scheduled for first quarter of 2026 will be delayed until first quarter FY2027. However, DPAA hops to fit in the investigation missions into FY2026.
As a side note, FY2025 was relatively a good year for recoveries and identifications. There were eight remains identified from the Vietnam War. Although this seems insignificant, it is double the number in recent years. Unfortunately, none were members of Special Forces units. The current number of unidentified service member from the Vietnam War is currently 1,566.
